Frequently Asked Questions About Postpartum Care

    What is the "fourth trimester"?

The fourth trimester refers to the 12-week period after giving birth. It’s a sacred time for mothers to rest, recover physically and emotionally, and bond with their newborn babies. Having a postpartum doula provides crucial support during this transitional phase.

What services do postpartum doulas provide?

Postpartum doulas provide non-medical support like nutritious meal preparation, light housekeeping, newborn care education, breastfeeding guidance, and nurturing companionship. Their goal is to create a calm, restful environment for you to recover and adjust to life with your newborn.

How does a postpartum doula help with breastfeeding?

Your doula can offer tips for comfortable positioning, recognizing feeding cues, and troubleshooting common breastfeeding challenges. However, we recommend also working with a lactation consultant for more specialized breastfeeding support.

Do you provide any medical services?

No, postpartum doulas are not medical professionals. We do not provide any clinical services like medical exams, administering medications, or wound care. Our role is non-medical support and education.

What type of meal preparation is included?

Your doula will prepare nourishing meals using groceries/ingredients from your own kitchen. We’re happy to accommodate cultural traditions, food allergies, or other dietary needs during meal preparation.

Can a postpartum doula help with older siblings?

Yes, your doula can engage with older children through reading, play, simple meal prep and outings (weather permitting) to provide you with restorative rest while bonding with your newborn.

What is the typical schedule for a postpartum doula?

Most clients utilize a daytime doula shift, with visits ranging from 4-12 hours per day depending on your needs and preferences. Overnight support is also available.
